NEW YORK — Warren Buffett donated shares of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to the tune of $1.6 billion, according to a story in Friday’s The Wall Street Journal. The gift of Berkshire Class B shares, which Buffett gives annually on July 1, is worth 28% more than last year’s gift of $1.25 billion. The total value of Buffett’s gift, including shares he’s pledged for future years, is worth about $39 billion based on Thursday’s closing price of Berkshire shares, said the Journal.
